The game was originally planned to be released exclusively for the Wii U. However, because of the commercial failure of Wii U exclusive ZombiU, Ubisoft believed that Rayman Legends would not be proftiable as a Wii U exclusive, and decided to make it multi-platform.

In the final room of the Mansion of the Deep level, players must work thier way through a laser grid in order to finish the level. The music playing ["Thé à la Menthe" (subtitled "the laser dance version") by La Caution] and theme of the room bare a uncanny reseblence to the scene in the Ocean's 12 movie, where the Night Fox dances through a laser grid in order to steal an egg from a museum.
