Contains Hans Zimmer's first ever video game score.
The most profitable video game of all time at its release. It earned more than $500 million in its first 5 days.
If the first Modern Warfare game is set in 2011 than the second game is set in 2016 as Sheperd says in the opening that 5 years had passed since the end of Call of Duty 4
In the mission Team Player as the player's Humvee is driving through the town, posters hanging on various walls show a mushroom cloud. The photo is actually of a 1952 U.S. nuclear test, Ivy Mike, the first full scale, true hydrogen bomb.
The game contains a controversial mission known as "No Russian" which the player is given the option to play at the beginning of the game. Within this mission, the player takes the role of a CIA operative who joins a Russian terrorist group and must take part in killing innocent civilians in an airport. Subsequently, the Russian release of the game has omitted this stage due to concerns.
Placed on a list of the most controversial games of all time due to the "No Russian" level in which the player is required to shoot and kill several innocents at an airport. The level is optional but leaves major holes in the storyline if not played.Quotes
Price: ["Just Like Old Times"; opening] The healthy human mind doesn't wake up in the morning thinking this is it's last day on Earth. But I think that's a luxury, not a curse. To know you're close to the end is a kind of freedom. Good time to take... inventory. Outgunned. Outnumbered. Out of our minds. On a suicide mission. But the sands and rocks here stained with thousands of years of warfare... they will remember us. For this. Because out of all our vast array of nightmares, this is the one we choose for ourselves. We go forward like a breath exhaled from the Earth. With vigor in our hearts and one goal in sight: *We. Will. Kill him.*
Price: ["Endgame"; voice recording, regarding Shepherd] This is for the record. History is written by the victor. History is filled with liars. If he lives and we die, his truth becomes written - and ours is lost. Shepherd will a hero, 'cause all you need to change the world is one good lie and a river of blood. He's about to complete the greatest trick a liar ever played on history. But only if he lives, and we die.
