Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

Robin Williams was a big fan of the series, and was actually in talks to do a voice for the games. Scheduling conflicts prevented this
When you first meet Barney, he says, "Now, about that beer I owe you". This is a reference to the original Half-Life. Some of the gas pumps are Swedish. Instead of "total sale" it says "summa" and there is the Swedish currency "krona". "Volume" is "volym" and it's measured in liters in stead of gallons.
It was speculated that the reason for the game being delayed from September 2003 to November 2004 was because the source code and a large portion of the completed game was stolen. This is not true. The delay was actually because the game would not be finished in September 2003, and the leak was just a bad coincidence.Quotes

G-Man: The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mister Freeman. Wake up and... *smell the ashes*...

Record the 'zombies' speech when you set them on fire. It sounds like gibberish, but when reversed you can hear them screaming stuff like "God help me".
